DURAZNO
Durazno es una ciudad uruguaya, capital del
departamento homónimo. Se encuentra localizada en el centro del país, sobre la
margen izquierda del río Yí, afluente del Río Negro, y en la confluencia de las
rutas nacionales 5 y 14. Fue fundada por los portugueses en 1821 bajo el nombre
de Villa San Pedro del Durazno, en homenaje al emperador Dom Pedro, de acuerdo
a otras fuentes el fundador fue Fructuoso Rivera. Según el censo del año 2011
la ciudad cuenta con una población de más de 34.000 habitantes.
