1990/91 Darko Pancev         Crvena zvezda (Beograd) (Yugoslavia)  34

NB: Darko Pancev got his prize only in 2006, following a protest from
Cyprus where a player supposedly scored 40 goals (though the official
topscorers for the season, Besirevic and Xiourouppas, are both listed
with 19 goals).  Due to this affair, France Football decide to make
    the competition unofficial.

From 1991/92 until 1995/96 no Golden Boot was awarded.  The European
top scorers in those seasons were:

season  player               club (country)                      goals
1991/92 Ally McCoist         Rangers FC (Glasgow) (Scotland)       34 [1]

[1] Otar Korgalidze of Guria Lanchkhuti (Georgia) scored 40 goals, but
is usually ignored in this (unofficial) ranking
[2] Merab Megreladze of Samgurali Tshkaltubo (Georgia) scored 41 goals,
but (as three other players) is usually ignored in this (unofficial)
        ranking

Since 1996/97 the ESM (European Sports Magazines), of which France
Football originally was part, award the Golden Boot again, with the
modification that goals in leagues ranked 1st-8th according to the
UEFA coefficient list (which determines the number of entries in the
UEFA Cup) are multiplied by a factor 2, those in leagues ranked
9th-21st by a factor 1.5.  After the winner, also the best scorer
regardless of those multiplications is indicated (in italics).
